Grade how ready your content is for AI crawlers and agents, see which bots read your site, and make it addressable by agents.

== Description ==

BotsBrief is an honest, self contained readiness tool for the agentic web. It answers one question in plain English: can AI crawlers and agents actually read and use your site? It grades your content, shows you which bots are already reading it, and gives you the tools to make your site usable by agents. Everything runs on your own server. No account, no external service, and nothing leaves your site.

It works in three layers.

= Read: the readiness grade =

BotsBrief grades each post and page from 0 to 100 on the signals that decide whether an AI system can read and quote you, and explains every result in plain language with a clear fix. It grades what the research shows matters: whether your content is in the server HTML (most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript), whether crawlers are allowed in, whether the page leads with a direct answer, and whether the structure is clean enough to extract. The grade appears on each post in the editor as you write, like a readability score, and across your whole site in a worst first overview.

It is deliberately honest. It does not grade you against things that do not move AI citations, and it tells you which signals are proven and which are only nice to have.

= Retrieve: clean content for agents =

Any page can be served as clean Markdown, so an agent can fetch your content without wading through your theme, scripts, and navigation. BotsBrief can also publish an optional llms.txt and an Open Knowledge Format (OKF) bundle at `/okf/`, a small set of linked Markdown files with a concept graph, kept in sync as you publish.

= Act: make your site usable by agents =

Almost no site can be acted on by an AI agent yet. BotsBrief generates that surface for you. With one click it stands up a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server on WordPress core's own Abilities API, so agents can query your content through declared, read only tools, plus an experimental in browser WebMCP bridge. This is labelled honestly as early, because the standards are young, but it puts your site ahead of almost every other.

= AI Activity: the proof =

A local monitor logs every visit from a known AI crawler or agent (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, and more) and shows you who is reading your site, how often, and which pages. It is honest about its limits: a full page cache can serve a bot before WordPress runs, so the counts are a representative sample, not a guarantee, and the plugin tells you when a cache is detected.

= Honest by design =

* Self contained. Everything runs on your server. No account, no SaaS, no per page cost.
* Built on WordPress core APIs, including the Abilities API.
* Reads your Rank Math or Yoast meta. It does not touch your SEO setup or write schema.
* It does not promise citations or rankings. It shows you what is readable, and what AI actually does.

== Installation ==

1. Install the zip through Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin, or upload the `botsbrief` folder to `/wp-content/plugins/`.
2. Activate the plugin through the Plugins menu.
3. The setup wizard opens on activation: pick what to grade, the crawler to simulate, and your agent capabilities, then run your first scan from inside it.
4. The Dashboard shows your readiness grade, the bots reading your site, and your agent capabilities on one screen. Readiness holds every page worst first; each post is also graded live in the editor.
5. Open BotsBrief, Agent to turn on Markdown endpoints, the MCP server, or the WebMCP beta.
6. For the clean `/okf/` address (optional), make sure pretty permalinks are on under Settings, Permalinks.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Where is the source code for the compiled admin script? =

The admin interface is a React app compiled to `build/botsbrief-admin.js`. The distributed plugin contains only that compiled bundle; the complete human readable source (TypeScript, styles, and build configuration) is public at https://github.com/Suganthan-Mohanadasan/okf-for-wordpress in the `admin-src` directory. To reproduce the bundle, run `npm install` and `npm run build` inside `admin-src`; the output is written to `build/botsbrief-admin.js`.

= Does BotsBrief send my content to any third party? =

No. There is no account and no external service. The only network requests it makes are to your own site: to grade a page it fetches that page and your robots.txt the same way an AI crawler would, so it sees exactly what a crawler sees. Your content is never sent anywhere else.

= What are the MCP server and WebMCP? =

They are optional, read only ways for AI agents to query your published content through declared tools. They are off by default, and you turn them on per capability on the Agent screen. The MCP server lives at `/wp-json/botsbrief/mcp` and requires authentication. WebMCP is an early browser standard and is labelled as a beta.

= Will it expose pages I have hidden from search? =

Not by default. Anything you mark noindex in Rank Math or Yoast is skipped, and the grade flags a noindex page rather than leaking it. You stay in control.

= Does it change my SEO, my schema, or my theme? =

No. BotsBrief lives entirely in the AI and agent lane. It reads your Rank Math or Yoast meta but never writes schema or touches your SEO settings or your theme.

= Does the bot monitor catch every AI visit? =

Not always, and it says so. A full page cache can serve a page before WordPress runs, so those hits are not counted. The plugin detects common caches and shows a notice, and the pattern it does capture is still a reliable picture of which bots read your site.

= Does it work with custom post types? =

Yes. Any public post type can be graded, and included in the OKF bundle, from the settings page.

== Changelog ==

= 2.0.0 =
* BotsBrief grows from an OKF bundler into a full AI agent readiness tool, built on the same proven engine.
* New: a 0 to 100 readiness grade for every post and page, in the block editor as you write and across the whole site worst first, each result explained with a fix.
* New: AI Activity, a local monitor of which AI crawlers and agents read your site, how often, and which pages, honest about caching limits.
* New: an agent surface. Serve any page as clean Markdown, and generate a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server on WordPress core's Abilities API, plus an experimental WebMCP bridge. Off by default.
* The Open Knowledge Format bundle and llms.txt continue as an optional Retrieve layer.
* Rebuilt the admin as a single React app, and unified all code under the botsbrief prefix.

= 1.3.0 =
* Now called BotsBrief.
* Admin CSS and the knowledge-graph script are enqueued through the WordPress asset APIs instead of printed as inline tags.

= 1.2.0 =
* Optional llms.txt at your site root (site name, content links, and a pointer to the OKF bundle), with a discovery hint in the page head. Toggle in Settings.

= 1.1.0 =
* New Link Audit screen: orphan pages, internal authority (PageRank over your internal links), and link opportunities (related posts that do not link to each other), all derived from the bundle's link graph
* Export the orphan and opportunity lists as CSV

= 1.0.3 =
* Filter excluded posts in PHP instead of a post__not_in query, for a cleaner database query on large sites

= 1.0.2 =
* Code quality pass for the plugin directory: escape all admin output at the point of output, sanitise settings input, and resolve Plugin Check findings

= 1.0.1 =
* Rewrite rules now flush automatically when the version changes, so /okf/ works without re-saving permalinks after install or update
* Concept files serve directly on sites with trailing-slash permalinks, instead of taking a 301 redirect first

= 1.0.0 =
* First public release
* Generate an OKF bundle from published posts and pages
* Serve at `/okf/` with a `?okf=` fallback, correct content type, and automatic regeneration on content changes
* Interactive knowledge graph with pan, zoom, hide toggle, auto fit, and a node limit for large sites
