ACADEMIC RESEARCH: REDUCING NITROUS oxide EMISSIONS IN LOAM SOILS
Agronomy Research Journal, Vol. 18, 2025.
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a potent greenhouse gas emitted from fertilized soils. This study evaluates the effect of nitrification inhibitors mixed with ammonium-based fertilizers in loam soil fields.
Results:
- N2O emissions decreased by 35% with the inhibitor.
- Crop nitrogen uptake efficiency improved by 8%, leading to a minor increase in corn crop yields.
- Application in sandy loam soils showed higher leaching than clay loam soils.
